HYMAN BROTMAN was born on 10 Mar 1883 in Galicia Austria.. He came with his mother and his sister Tema  on the Obdam in 1891,  He married Sophie Weiss on 12 Mar 1904 in Manhattan, New York.  She was born on 11 Sep 1885 in Austria. She died in Dec 1968 in Miami, Florida (Age at Death: 83).  He died in Feb 1968 in Miami Beach, Florida (Age at Death: 86).  Hyman at some point changed his name to Herman.  He moved from New York to Hoboken, NJ, where he owned a liquor store.

Hyman Brotman and Sophie Weiss had the following children:

JOSEPH BROTMAN was born about 1906 in New York. He married PEARL BROTMAN. She was born about 1911 in New Jersey.  Joseph and Pearl had two children, Barbara and Merle. Merle died in 2013.

SAUL BROTMAN was born on 27 Apr 1907 in New York. He died on 27 Dec 1987 in Dade, Florida, United States (Age: 80). He married (1) VICTORIA R. HOROWITZ. She was born in Brooklyn, Kings, New York on November 15, 1919.  She died June 29, 2013.  They had three sons, Bruce, Lester and Ronald.

EMANUEL MANNY BROTMAN was born on 09 May 1910 in New York City (All Boroughs), New York, USA. He died on 29 Aug 1994 in Hollywood, Broward, Florida, USA (Age at Death: 84). He married (1) FREDA FEINMAN. She was born on 12 Aug 1911 in New York City (All Boroughs), New York, USA. She died on 29 Apr 1986 in Hollywood, Broward, Florida, USA (Age at Death: 74).   Manny was a lawyer. Manny and Freda had three children, Dennis, Joel and Bonnie.

  4. Hi! Do you know what happened to Barbara Brotman? I am trying to find my mother’s maternal family…her mother’s name was Barbara Brotman, from NY, and married Alan Harris. She died of Multiple Sclerosis but I am not sure when….my guess is in the 1980’s. She had two daughters – Rhonda and Linda. Please let me know if you have any additional information that may help me link this ancestry to my family . Thank you.

    • Hi Amanda, I am afraid that that is not the same Barbara. Joseph Brotman’s son Barbara had a son, but no daughters, according to family members. I do not know her married name or the name of her son, but I do not think it is the same person.

      Have you tried to find an obituary? Where did she live when she died? Maybe I can help.
